Music Mends Minds: Music therapy and information for people with Alzeheimer's, Dementia, and Parkinson's Disease Tuesday, February 09, 2021 at 1:00 PM Join us for a session on how music mends minds. Language falls away in degenerative conditions like Parkinson's Disease, Alzeheimer's and Dementia, diminishing patients' ability to connect. But music can retrain the brain, allowing people to communicate even as verbal language is lost. We will hear scientific evidence supporting the many benefits of music, see the amazing immediate results music can have on patient's communication skills and offer a 20 minute sing-along session for all who attend! THE PARTY HOP takes place on a Saturday night three years into quarantine. Three college sophomores, Ava, Emma, and Nancy, bounce from virtual party to virtual party in what is now a typical night out. However, when Emma and Nancy discover that Ava has not yet had her first kiss, they insist that tonight must be the night. 	3/13/2021	Beginners quilting project and history with the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM Join the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association in partnership with Silicon Valley Reads on a quilting experience that will take you across the world and into your own living room for a personal quilting project. Learn about the history of quilting and global projects happening now. Get a map to physically visit handmade quilts which will be hung outside for safe viewing. Join us for a quilted heart project and use your own tools or pickup what you need from local quilters. These hearts can be left throughout your neighborhood. 	3/23/2021	Virtual Jazz Bassist and Storyteller: Marcus Shelby Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 6:30 PM Marcus Shelby is a composer, arranger, band leader, bassist, and educator who lives in San Francisco. His work focuses on the history, present, and future of African American lives, social movements, and music education. Join us the month of Harriet Tubman's passing, as Marcus Shelby relays the story of "Harriet Tubman and the Blues”. This is an investigation on how Harriet Tubman connected with others, her family, and safe houses using the language of the blues (blues shouts, field, cries, work songs, complaint calls, and spirituals). Her methods extended through her work in the civil war and later during the women’s suffrage movement. Mr. Shelby will also play the bass as part of this special event. 	3/27/2021	San Jose Taiko: Interactive Movement & Performance Saturday , March 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM San Jose Taiko is the preeminent taiko drumming company in North America who’ve captivated audiences around the world with the powerful sounds of the Japanese taiko drum since 1973. San Jose Taiko is highly acclaimed for its innovative performances, community and cultural building, and educational programs. Join us as our performers guide students through interactive movement and rhythm activities, taiko language practice and watch a video performance together. Make some bachi (drumsticks) and play along! All you need is 12-14 sheets of copy paper and some tape.
